TIA Submits Comments in Response to Joint Agency Report on Proposed Regulatory Framework and Health IT Recommendations

Arlington, VA (July 8, 2014) – The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leading association representing the manufacturers and suppliers of high-tech communications networks, submitted comments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in response to a joint agency FDASIA Health IT Report: Proposed Risk Based Regulatory Framework about a proposed risk-based regulatory framework and strategy for health IT.

In its comments, TIA commended the FDASIA Report on taking notable steps to provide clarity and predictability to stakeholders to help support and promote innovation, including defining the roles of different agencies in the healthcare space. TIA also urged for a flexible regulatory framework that balances risk and benefit, and due to the rapidly evolving pace of technology and innovation, cautioned against any approach that seeks to unnaturally categorize all health ICT.
